ASME B16.11 threaded fittings, forged fittings

Sleeve welded fittings, threaded fittings are mainly used for small diameters; usually used for pipes with a nominal diameter of NPS 4 or smaller.
The dimensional criteria for tapered pipe threads are given in ASME B1.20.1.
This document gives all dimensions, including the number of threads per inch, the pitch diameter and the normal mesh length for all pipe diameters.

1. Threaded pipes are commonly used in low cost, non-critical applications such as domestic water, fire protection and industrial cooling water systems.
2. Threaded joints are usually made of cast grey or malleable cast iron, cast brass or bronze, or wrought alloy and carbon steel, without reinforcement.
They are available in three rated pressures: 2000 lbs, 3000 lbs and 6000 lbs.

The US National Pipe Thread Taper is the most famous and widely used connection where the pipe threads provide mechanical joints and hydraulic seals.
The NPT has a tapered male and female thread and is sealed with Teflon tape or a joint compound.
